A Nightmare on Elm Street

His Hollywood entrance is a very tricky remake of a cult horror movie and the flick that practically defined that genre – “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. The original version was both written and directed by the iconic horror author Wes Craven, in 1984. This movie established Craven as the master of horror movies and brought to life one of most frightening villains in the history of Hollywood – notorious Freddy Krueger. (Robert Englud, the actor who portrayed Krueger said that decades after, he was still recognized for this particular role).Samuel Bayer has created, directed and photographed tons of music videos, and CD covers. He is a well know name in the music industry, and received many awards for his work in that field. His video for a band Green Day “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” received 7 MTV Video Awards (known as the Moon Men). Samuel Bayer also received the Kodak Lifetime Achievement Award, and won one more Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. (He was honored by the association of music Video producers). He is famous for his filming ways – he never used HD cameras, and technology, and although it lasts longer and costs more, he insists on using the film camera and equipment.

It is always tough to do the remake of something millions of people approved, and watched, especially if it is the movie with the cult status and a story practically everyone knows. That is why making “A Nightmare on Elm Street” again, is a very brave (and hopefully not a crazy) move.

In this 2010 version, Jackie Earle Haley (from “Watchmen”) will bring Fred Krueger to life. The setting is high school (like in the original version) and the horror scenes have been re-invented and shot in a modern manner. Kellan Lutz, a “Twilight” star also plays in this remake, and we certainly hope that true horror fans won’t be disappointed. When you re-film a horror classic, 24 years after it is “make or break” situation. Hopefully, Samuel Bayer did a good job.
